Srinagar, Mar 09 (KNO): The residents of Pakherpora area in Central Kashmir's Budgam district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for hiking their power tariffs every month and have demanded authorities to reconsider its decision. The residents of the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the authorities have sent inflated bills after enhancing consumption load without carrying out any survey. They said that their monthly tariff has been increased from Rs 920 to Rs 1300 in the last two months and this huge increase is taking a heavy toll on locals, who are financially weak. Local Auqaf President, Bashir Ahmad told KNO that the PDD department had provided a hotline to Ziyarat Shareef for which they deserve appreciation. He however, said that the area is facing unscheduled power cuts and it has increased in the last few weeks but the tariff at the same time has been increased. Ahmad further said that if there would have been adequate supply then they wouldn't have been against the decision. Sajad Ahmad, another consumer, said that in the last year or two, the government has increased tariffs at least 4-5 times and the government must think of poor people before making such a decision. The residents appealed PDD that they should revisit their decision so that people won't have to suffer—(KNO)
